Frequently Asked Questions

General

Q: Who's behind Moonlight Mounts?

A: Hey there! We're tech-loving outdoor enthusiasts who couldn't decide between stargazing and scrolling. So we thought, "Why not both?" That's how Moonlight Mounts was born. We get equally excited about a perfect campsite and a flawless 3D print: by day we design gear for fellow adventurers, and by night we're either out testing it under the stars or tweaking designs until the wee hours. We've been at this 3D printing game for more than a decade now, and let's just say we've drunk enough coffee to fuel a rocket launch!

Q: Where are you based, and who can buy your stuff?

A: We're proudly nestled just outside of Atlanta, Georgia, where the sweet tea flows and the peaches grow. Every mount is designed and 3D printed in-house, right here in the USA — and we ship internationally.

Products & Compatibility

Q: Which Starlink models do your mounts fit?

A: We make mounts for the Starlink Mini, the Standard 4 Gen 3 dish (also called Rev4, V3, V4, or UTA-232), the Starlink V5 (the Gen 5 residential dish released in 2026), and the Starlink Router Mini. We don't currently make mounts for the older Gen 2 rectangular dish. Beyond Starlink, we also build mounts for Peplink Slim MIMO antennas, Dragy GPS meters, and a whole lineup of garage and workshop gear from Fanttik, Bosch, and Silhouette. Every product page spells out exactly what it fits.

Q: Can I use a suction cup mount on the outside of my vehicle?

A: No — every suction cup mount we make is designed for interior glass only. The mount goes on the inside of your sunroof, moonroof, or window, and the dish works right through the glass while staying protected from wind, weather, and sticky fingers.

Q: Do your suction cup mounts work in a Tesla?

A: It depends on the glass. Pre-2025 Model Y and Model 3 roofs pass the Starlink signal, and our suction cup mounts work there. Tesla's newer heat-rejecting glass does not: the 2025 and later Model Y roof, the Model Y L roof and rear hatch, and the Cybertruck roof all have a metallic layer that blocks the signal. The front windshield on those vehicles does pass signal, but suction mounts on a windshield are for parked use only. Not sure which glass you have? Set the dish on the seat under the roof and check the Starlink app for a connection before ordering.

Q: Can I drive with the dish mounted?

A: It depends on the mount:

  • Interior suction cup mounts (Starlink Mini, Mini Compact, Gen 3, V5, Router Mini, Peplink): yes — that's the whole point. Inside the cabin the dish is never in the airflow, so it stays put while you drive.
  • Hybrid Mount: no. It's an exterior mount rated for stationary use only — never drive with it.
  • Magnetic mounts: treat them as stationary unless the product page says otherwise.
  • Rail mounts: we recommend removing the dish around marinas and bridges and in rough weather.
  • Screw-in roof mounts: these are permanent installations — the mount is bolted down and stays put.

Q: What are the mounts made of?

A: Our mounts are printed in UV-resistant ASA, a plastic made for years of outdoor sun without fading or getting brittle. Hail guard shields are polycarbonate (the Lexan® family) — 3 mm on Starlink Mini shields and 4.5 mm on the Gen 3 and V5. Mounting hardware is matched to the job, like 18-8 stainless steel screws on roof mounts and black-oxide alloy steel M5s on rail mounts.

Q: Are 3D-printed mounts strong enough?

A: Yes. Strength in a printed part comes from how thick its walls are and how much material is inside, and ours are built well beyond a typical hobby print: every part is printed in UV-resistant ASA with solid outer walls about 2.5 mm thick (six passes of material around every edge), a dense 75% internal fill, and solid top and bottom surfaces. Every design is tested in real-world conditions by full-time travelers.

Q: Do you make anything to protect the dish from hail?

A: We do — our hail guards. They're enclosures with impact-resistant polycarbonate shields (the Lexan® family) that let the dish keep working while shrugging off hail and flying debris. We make them for the Starlink Mini, the Standard 4 Gen 3, and the V5, with replacement shields sold separately. One planning note for the Gen 3 and V5: the hail guard and our flat roof mount use the same corner positions on the dish, so you'll pick one or the other — the Gen 3 and V5 guides walk through that choice.

Q: What colors can I get?

A: Most products come in eighteen colors — from everyday Black, White, and Gray to Galaxy Blue, Teal, and Pop Pink. The Starlink Mini roof, rail, magnetic, and hybrid mounts come in black or white, and every product page shows exactly which colors it's offered in. Not sure what'll match your ride? Grab the color sample kit — 18 printed swatches with a display holder, and it comes with a $10 credit toward your next order.

Q: Is the Starlink dish (or other device) included?

A: No — we make the mounts, not the electronics. You bring the dish, router, antenna, or tool; we make sure it stays exactly where you want it.

Q: What hardware comes in the box?

A: Mounting hardware is included. Wall mounts ship with three 75 lb drywall anchors and screws, roof mounts with 18-8 stainless steel screws, and rail mounts with their black-oxide M5 hardware. Each product page lists the exact contents for that mount.

Q: How do I pick the right mount for my setup?

A: Start with our guides blog — it's built for exactly this. There are buying guides for the Starlink Mini, the Standard 4 Gen 3, and the V5, plus deep dives on rail sizing, magnetic mounting, and hail protection — each one compares your options on criteria you can check against your own vehicle or boat. Still stuck? Tell us about your setup through the contact page and we'll point you at the right mount.

Order & Shipping

Q: How soon can I expect my order to arrive?

A: Great question! We're as excited about you getting your order as you are. Every mount is printed to order, so here's the lowdown:

  • 1-3 business days for us to work our magic and print your mount (most orders go out sooner)
  • Another 3-5 business days for free domestic shipping via USPS Ground Advantage

So, in about a week or so, you should be unboxing your shiny new mount! Every product page shows a live delivery estimate for your order, and if you need it sooner, faster shipping is available at checkout — see the next question. We're always hustling to get your gear to you ASAP, but sometimes the shipping fairies have other plans. Rest assured, we're on it!

Q: Do you offer expedited shipping?

A: Yes! Free US shipping is USPS Ground Advantage (insured), and at checkout you can choose a faster USPS or UPS service instead, at the carrier's rate. One thing to know: faster shipping shortens the trip, not the print. Your mount still needs 1-3 business days to print before it ships, so a faster service gets it to you sooner after that. Need it by a specific date? Contact us before you order and we'll do our best to make it happen.

Q: Do you ship to customers outside of the United States?

A: Yes. We ship to every country in the European Union, plus Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Singapore. We don't currently ship to Canada. International delivery times vary by destination and carrier, so allow a little extra transit time beyond our domestic estimates. Your country may charge import VAT, duty, or a carrier handling fee on delivery, and those charges are the buyer's responsibility. Customers in the United Kingdom can order from our Etsy shop, which collects UK VAT at checkout. Our largest hail guards (Standard 4 Gen 3 and V5) ship within the US only.

Q: My international order hasn't arrived or shows a failed delivery. Where is it?

A: Usually it is in customs or being held by your local carrier. International packages clear customs in your country before delivery, which can add several days, and customs or the carrier may ask you to pay import duties or taxes before releasing it. Those charges are the buyer's responsibility. After customs, your country's own carrier (Deutsche Post, La Poste, Australia Post, and so on) makes the delivery, and the USPS tracking page often stops updating at that point. Paste the same tracking number into your local carrier's website for the current status. Local carriers sometimes record a failed delivery and move the package to a nearby post office or pickup point without leaving a notice card. If tracking shows a failed delivery or available for pickup, the carrier's tracking page names the location, and photo ID plus the tracking number is usually enough to collect it. Hold periods vary by country, and uncollected packages are returned to us, so pick it up promptly. Still can't find it? Contact us with your order number and we'll help track it down.

Q: Help! My order seems to have vanished into thin air. What now?

A: Oh no! Let's play detective and track down your order:

  1. First stop: your Orders page. It's like GPS for your package.
  2. Still no luck? Don't panic! Drop us a line through our contact page.
