Best Starlink Gen 3 (Standard 4) Mounts: What to Look For
Shopping for a mount for the full-size Starlink residential dish starts with a problem the Mini never had: nobody agrees on what the dish is called. Starlink's paperwork says Standard 4. The label on the back says UTA-232. Retail listings say Gen 3, Rev4, V3, V4, or Standard 4 X — and every one of those names refers to the same dish.
That confusion is where most bad mount purchases begin, because a mount built for the Gen 2 rectangular dish or the Mini will not fit a Standard 4, and plenty of listings never say which revision they mean. So before comparing any two mounts, the first check is the boring one: does the listing name the dish revision it fits?
We make three mounts for this dish, so we're not a neutral party. But the checklist below is neutral anyway — every item is something you can verify from a listing, a seller question, or a tape measure before you spend anything, whoever you buy from.
First, confirm the dish
The Standard 4 is the current full-size residential dish: kickstand base, no motors, roughly the footprint of a large serving tray. If your dish arrived from Starlink in 2024 or later and isn't a Mini, this is almost certainly what you have — but check the model label rather than guessing. UTA-232 on the back settles it.
A mount listing that fits this dish should say at least one of: Standard 4, Gen 3, UTA-232, Rev4, V4, or Standard 4 X. A listing that only says "Starlink mount" with a photo is asking you to gamble the return shipping.
The corner rule: this dish mounts by its corners
Here's the single most important thing to understand about the whole Standard 4 accessory category: almost everything that attaches to this dish grips it by its corners — and the corners are only available once.

When you're comparing mounts from anyone, ask the same question: what part of the dish does this occupy, and does it conflict with anything else I'm planning to add?
Three jobs, three categories
Ignore the product photos and sort any Standard 4 mount into one of three jobs:
- Riding inside a vehicle — an interior glass suction mount that holds the dish flat against a panoramic sunroof. The dish stays in the cabin, out of the airflow, which is why driving with one installed isn't just allowed — it's the point.
- Living on a roof — a permanent bolt-down mount for a house, workshop, or RV. Drilled, sealed, done.
- Surviving the sky — a hail guard: a polycarbonate shield over the dish for hail country, falling branches, and everything else gravity supplies.
Starlink's own kit covers the fourth job — ground and pole mounting — with the included kickstand and its pipe-adapter accessories. If the dish lives at ground level and moves every weekend, the stand it shipped with may honestly be all you need.
For suction mounts: glass area, then cup count
The Standard 4 is a much bigger, heavier dish than the Mini, and the suction math scales with it.
- Measure your flat glass first. Our Gen 3 suction cup mount spans 554 × 765 mm — about 21.8 × 30.1 inches — and every cup has to land on flat glass, not headliner, not the seal. That's panoramic-roof territory: it's designed for the Tesla Model Y, Cybertruck, Cadillac Escalade, and similar flat panoramic roofs. If your roof can't offer that much uninterrupted glass, no suction mount fixes it.
- Count the cups, and check that they lock. A dish this size overhead deserves redundancy. Ours uses eight heavy-duty locking cups in a four-corner layout — locking levers hold vacuum mechanically instead of depending on how hard you pressed. Two or three press-on cups under a full-size dish is a different risk calculation entirely.
- Know how it attaches to the dish. On the Mini, brackets slide over the housing. The Standard 4's shape doesn't allow that, so our mount secures its four parts to the dish with 3M tape — a one-time, deliberate installation. Whatever mount you're considering, the listing should say exactly how dish meets mount; "attaches securely" is not a mechanism.
- Interior glass only, every time. Suction mounts belong on the inside of the glass. Outside, in the airflow and the weather, suction is never the answer — from us or anyone.
Cable routing matters too: the dish's cable has to exit without being pinched between mount and glass. Ours carries notches on the lower mount parts for exactly that. And cups are the wear item — heat cycles age them before anything else gives out — so check the seller offers replacements individually.
For roof mounts: hardware you can name
A permanent mount is a hole in your roof, so the questions get structural:
- What screws, exactly? Ours ships with eight 18-8 stainless steel oval head screws (#12 × 2 in), two per corner through 6 mm holes. A listing that doesn't name its hardware — count, size, material — is telling you the screws were an afterthought. "Screws included" can mean anything.
- What roof types? Shingle, metal, and flat roofs are the design targets for ours. Curved or corrugated surfaces need honest answers from whoever you buy from.
- Sealant is on you. No mount kit seals your roof by itself. Plan on a flexible exterior sealant (a Pro Flex RV-type product) under and around every mounting point, don't over-tighten into soft roofing, and consider professional installation if the roof is steep or the warranty matters.
- Profile height. Lower is better in the wind. Ours stands 48 mm — about 1.9 inches — with the dish sitting low and flat.
For hail guards: shield thickness and the air gap
Impact protection has two numbers worth checking:
- Shield material and thickness. Ours is 4.5 mm polycarbonate — the Lexan family of material, the stuff riot shields are made from — sized at 610 × 399 mm to cover the dish's face.
- The air gap. A shield pressed flat against the dish traps heat. Ours holds a 3 mm gap so air keeps moving over the dish underneath.
Also ask what happens after the shield takes its hit. Polycarbonate sacrifices itself gradually — UV and impacts eventually cloud it — so the shield should be the replaceable part, not the whole product. Material: a rooftop is the UV worst case
Every outdoor Standard 4 mount lives in direct sun for years. PLA — the default material of cheap print-to-order listings — softens around 140 °F, a temperature dark roofs pass routinely. PETG handles heat better but isn't particularly UV-stable. ASA is the material made for this job, and it's what we print everything in, in 18 colors. Who made it, and can you ask them a question
The free pre-purchase test: ask the seller which dish revisions their mount fits. Anyone who actually designed for this dish answers in model numbers, not adjectives.

Measure first, then order
Confirm the dish name on its label. Decide which of the three jobs you're hiring for. Then hold any listing to the checklist: named dish compatibility, what part of the dish it occupies, glass area or hardware or shield specs by number, material by name, and spare parts sold separately.
