How to Mount a Peplink Slim MIMO Antenna: Suction Cup Install Guide

The Peplink Slim MIMO is a low-profile cellular antenna designed for vehicles, boats, and fixed installs where a clean, unobtrusive look matters. Mounting it correctly makes a real difference to signal quality. This guide covers a suction cup install on interior glass — the most flexible option for anyone who moves the antenna between vehicles or doesn't want to drill.

⚠ Interior glass only. This is not an exterior mount. Suction cups need a clean, static surface and can't withstand exterior wind and vibration. Mount it on the inside of the glass.

Why Mounting Position Matters for MIMO

MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) antennas use multiple elements to send and receive on several signal paths at once — four on the 40G, two on the 22G. The elements are already spaced correctly inside the housing, but where you put that housing still affects performance. For best results:

  • Mount high on a window, not low on a door panel
  • Avoid mounting directly next to other antennas or large metal obstructions
  • A central window position gives the best signal, with an unobstructed view toward the sky and horizon

What You'll Need

Step 1: Choose Your Surface and Position

Interior glass only — windshields, side windows, rear windows, sunroofs. Avoid textured, matte, painted, or dirty surfaces, as suction grip will be unreliable on all of them.

For a vehicle install, the center of a side or rear window is the most common position. For a fixed install in a building, the inside of any smooth window with a clear outward view works well.

Step 2: Clean the Surface

Wipe the mounting area with isopropyl alcohol and allow it to dry fully. Remove any wax, grease, or residue. This is the single most important step for long-term suction reliability.

Step 3: Attach the Antenna to the Mount

Slide the Peplink Slim MIMO antenna into the mount bracket with the logo facing the glass. The antenna should sit flush in the bracket with no rocking or play.

Step 4: Attach the Mount to the Glass

Position the mount on the cleaned interior glass. Press each of the two heavy-duty suction cups firmly against the surface, then rotate the handles to engage the locking mechanism. Pull the mount laterally and vertically to confirm it's fully seated.

Step 5: Route the Cables

Run the antenna cables along the window frame or headliner and back to your router, taking care not to bend the connectors sharply at the antenna end. Use cable clips to keep the run tidy and prevent the cable from being pinched in a door.

Step 6: Verify Signal

Power on your Peplink device and check signal strength in the Peplink InControl dashboard or the device's local admin interface. Compare readings with the antenna in different positions if you're not satisfied with initial performance. Small adjustments in height or position can make a meaningful difference.

Why Glass Rather Than Metal

For cellular MIMO antennas, glass is the better surface — and not only because that's what suction cups grip. Metal blocks and reflects RF, so an antenna mounted against a metal panel loses a significant part of its usable pattern. Glass lets the antenna receive across a much wider angle. Mounting on interior glass gets you both the mechanical grip and the RF performance.

Tips for Long-Term Reliability

  • Re-check suction grip regularly, especially after big temperature swings. Heat and cold both affect suction cup performance.
  • Remove and reseat the mount if you notice any movement.
  • Clean the suction cup base with a damp cloth (no soap) if grip degrades over time. Let it dry before reattaching.
  • If a cup becomes warped, take it off and soak it in hot water to reset its shape.
