Frequently asked questions

What surfaces will it mount to?

Any ferromagnetic steel surface — the four magnets hold with 192 pounds of combined pull. Aluminum won't work; test your surface with any household magnet first.

How is this different from the regular hail guard?

Same 3 mm polycarbonate protection, but with four 48 lb magnets built in — so it mounts to steel with no screws and no drilling. The non-magnetic enclosure flat-mounts through screw holes instead.

Can I drive with it mounted?

Treat it as a stationary mount: set it up when parked and remove it before driving.

How do I get the dish in and out?

Remove four screws and slide the Starlink Mini in from the side, then reassemble and place it on the steel surface.

Is a 3D-printed mount strong enough?

Yes. Strength in a printed part comes from how thick its walls are and how much material is inside, and ours are built well beyond a typical hobby print: every part is printed in UV-resistant ASA with solid outer walls about 2.5 mm thick (six passes of material around every edge), a dense 75% internal fill, and solid top and bottom surfaces. Every design is tested in real-world conditions by full-time travelers.
